Handbagged is the new comedy that opens the clasp on the relationship between two giants of the 20th Century. Buffini’s play speculates on that most provocative of questions: What did the world’s most powerful women talk about behind closed doors? Marion Bailey (“Q,” an older Queen Elizabeth II), Stella Gonet (“T,” an older Margaret Thatcher), Fenella Woolgar (Mags), Neet Mohan (Nancy Reagan/Neil Kinnock/Kenneth Kaunda/Robert Runcie) and Jeff Rawle (Ronald Reagan/Denis Thatcher/Peter Carrington/Geoffrey Howe) will reprise their original roles. They will be joined by Lucy Robinson (Liz) to complete the company. Two completely different worlds, one forced weekly meeting. Endless cups of tea. The Tricycle Theatre’s sold-out production of Moira Buffini’s Handbagged is set to transfer to the West End with a limited engagement April 3 through August 2 at the Vaudeville Theatre. Directed by Tricycle’s Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham, opening night is set for April 10. Buffini’s plays include Women, Power & Politics, Welcome To Thebes, Dinner, Dying For It and Marianne Dreams. Her screenplays include Tamara Drewe, Jane Eyre and Byzantium. She recently directed her first short film, Father. The production will feature set design by Richard Kent, lighting design by Oliver Fenwick, and sound design by Carolyn Downing.

ELLSWORTH — Ellsworth junior Talor Hamilton has been named the boys’ Class B Swimmer of the Year for the second straight season.“It’s unusual to get Swimmer of the Year twice,” Ellsworth coach Jim Goodman said. “Talor is a phenomenal swimmer.”The honor comes after Hamilton also was named the PVC Male Swimmer of the Year and the Performer of the Meet at the state championships, where he claimed two individual titles (100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke) as well as one relay title (200-yard medley).But Hamilton wasn’t the only impressive swimmer on Goodman’s boys’ team this season. And the combination of the Eagles’ youth and commitment to the sport bodes well for the program’s future.This is placeholder textThis is placeholder textOf the eight boys on the team this season, only one was a senior. Also of those eight, five are year-round swimmers.Goodman said that, despite the five snow days where he could not hold practices, his swimmers swam roughly 60 miles over the course of the season.“That’s like swimming to Bangor and back,” he said. “They’re very hard working when they get into the water.”Along with Hamilton, three other Eagles — Cooper Holmes, Sam Alvarado and Hayden Sattler — also have excelled this season. All took home a state gold medal in the 200-yard medley, with Holmes also earning an individual title in the 100-yard breaststroke.Eight of the Ellsworth boys’ 11 team records were broken this season, with three of those dating back more than six years.Hamilton set four new ones: 50-yard freestyle (21.26), 100-yard freestyle (47.28), 100-yard backstroke (52.26) and the 100-yard butterfly (51.73).Holmes, a junior, set two new records: the 100-yard breaststroke (59.87) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.26).“They both came in with goals, and they accomplished those goals,” Goodman said of co-captions Hamilton and Holmes. “They were the boys’ team’s leaders.”For Holmes, that goal was to break the one-minute mark in the 100-yard breaststroke, which he accomplished at States.“That doesn’t happen very often at all in Maine,” Goodman said of the accomplishment. “Our swimmers just keep improving across the board.”Two weeks later, Holmes dropped his 100-yard breaststroke time by almost a half-second (59.45) at the YMCA state championships. He placed second in the event.Hamilton and Holmes, in addition to sophomores Alvarado and Sattler, also set new team records this season in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:24.07) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.65).All four swimmers were named to the PVC All-star swim team, and Hamilton and Holmes were named to the Maine All-state team.Goodman said he’s proud of his team, which placed second of 16 teams at the PVC championships and fourth of 24 teams at States.“It was a really fantastic year,” Goodman said. “We couldn’t do it without the parents, the Y and the school’s support for the team.” EHS names new boys’ soccer coach – July 13, 2016
