Man held for taking bribe allegedly on behalf of IGP

first_imgThe Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday said it has arrested a person in Punjab while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh allegedly on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (Ferozepur Range).An official spokesperson said that a case was registered on a complaint from the Senior Superintendent of Police (now retired) of the Vigilance Bureau in Patiala, in which it was alleged that the complainant was being falsely implicated in a case registered against him for which a Special Investigation Team had been formed by the IGP, Ferozepur.“It was alleged that the SIT had searched the house of the complainant and seized certain documents and articles. Besides, bribe was being demanded from the complainant for diluting the case against the complainant and for returning the seized documents and articles to the complainant,” said the spokesperson.The spokesperson added that the CBI laid a trap in Ludhiana and caught the personred-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of ₹10 lakh allegedly on behalf of the IGP, Ferozepur Range.‘Documents seized’“The CBI seized certain relevant documents, etc. from the office-cum-residence of IGP, Ferozepur. Searches conducted at the house of the person who was arrested also led to the recovery of ₹5 lakh, which was allegedly accepted as the first instalment of the bribe in Chandigarh,” said the official spokesperson.last_img
